Time for a little update on the Hobbled piece and the continuing Windrush series.
I’ve swapped for a little while from Windrush quilting (I’m coming back to it) to painting as I had an idea I wanted to explore. Maude’s Story.
The hobbled piece continues too. Switching from one to the other is quite energising. I normally work through one piece before starting another, but I like this! The text for hobbled was put onto paper, and made into a repeating pattern which I then had printed onto cotton. It was then dyed, and made up into a base shape without the neck line etc. I have yet to decide whether to add wadding when I stitch this - I like the idea of using a quilt as a base for this but am not sure how it will look/hang. There will be an orange silk underskirt painted with acrylics and possibly with holes burned into it. Again, not sure.
I have been making hands, flowers, leaves etc to decorate - a sort of beauty and the beast vibe. Here’s some process photos followed by one of the state of play today. I’m doing other things for a few days but am looking forward to getting on with it all when I’m done.

And this is where I’m at so far. I can see straight away the hands need to be more red, so I’ll do that now. I’m hoping the silk fabric will arrive before my visitors so I can get on and dye that too. I shall then paint it - fairly abstract I think.
Love the process pics from the wip Hobbled piece. This post reminded me about a book you might be interested in checking out from your local library/trying to get through Interlibrary Loan. It is called Fashion Victims https://www.bloomsbury.com/us/fashion-victims-9781472577740/ Really entertaining reading, and an entire section on the hobble skirt that might interest you!
